The Spider and the Whale

from The Eclectic Universe by BAAN

lyrics

I once knew a spider
Who once knew a whale
The spider walked up into a tree
The whale was certain the spider would die

The spider could walk upon
The water, the wave and the surface of the pond
The whale lived his life upside down
No face, but a smile like a frown

I once knew a spider who married a whale
A sorry old match, a terrible tale
The spider was sure the spider would die
The spider was smaller than her husband's eye

Eight eyes, bright and clear
She was a clairvoyant, a seer
In his deep sea she always was drowned
In her web he was always bound

His ground is the boundary, where lies the air
His sky the deep trenches, the cavernous lair
Of the kraken, the monster, his nemesis
There he does battle, on this he insists

She brings him flies, bugs, caterpillars who dance
Not roses nor fish, nor other signs of romance
Crushed by the pressure of the water above
Crushed by the perilous state of their love

Spider loves a whale
Their love be impaled
World is upside down
Who will be the crown?
