The Metallic Society

from The Eclectic Universe by BAAN

/

about

Here is the tale of the metallic society, as told by one who witnessed it in operation, deep within the shatter.

You might think of the metallic society as the ultimate expression of the hive, the final form of the mammalian drive towards collective individuality - a gathering of unique and diverse psychologies, from psychopaths to empaths, from the greedy and the unkind to the generous and loving.

Stupidity.

Intelligence.

Ugliness.

Beauty.

Honesty.

Duplicity.

Each of them a survival strategy. After all, it’s how we got to where we are.

The metallic society gives up on the idea of expunging these traits and characteristics, but instead embraces each of us for what we are, allows us to be lazy, or hard working, dedicated or careless.

Once upon a time we adopted a dispersed more nebulous form, spread throughout the natural world, existing only in small family groups and proto-conurbations. And as we move through the present crisis of liquefaction, where we flow amongst one another like millions of discrete rivers, swirling and rushing into every available crevice, towards the metallic society, we will find ourselves pressurised, heated, forged and tempered anew.

All those shapes the rivers carved will become sculptures of adamantium, silver, gold and platinum. Unknown alloys will form, creating hitherto undiscovered purpose in this new world of the blade and the plough.

I have seen this metallic society in the shards, a million years distant from this place, so I recognise the signs - the distress and discomfort of knowing your world is changing; the intolerance of difference as you are pressed together closer and closer to those you have been taught to despise; your reluctance to engage with the forces of currency; your desire to withhold your involvement; millions of people waking up to the daily injustices and excremental outpourings of the human totem pole.

Stay true. Be peaceful.

Accept the other. Celebrate their divinity as you celebrate your own and the metallic society will be yours.

lyrics

Philosophy - our days will end

Philology - all words will blend

Psychology - unique the same

Nomology - laws are a game

Biology - we are just meat

Seismology - the earth has bones

Zythology - we all get stoned

Deep in the structures of your mind
To which most of us are blind
Lie the fields of ancient Rome
Where the quantum is at home
And all your babies will be there
Everything you ever shared
All the loves and all the shame
In the end it’s treated all the same

Time and time you look for space
Every time you lose your place
Slipping out of your comfort zone
But you know you’re never alone
Just like golden finches fly
There are little gardens in your eye
Little islands you put in a tray
These things you make will never fade away
